China, the world's largest polluter, has seen its emissions stabilize or decline over the past 18 months, according to a new analysis by CREA. Despite heavy reliance on coal, the country is making progress in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, with significant growth in solar and wind energy. However, it remains off target for cutting carbon intensity and needs steeper reductions to meet its climate goals. China has committed to reducing net greenhouse gas emissions by 7 to 10 percent by 2035, and recent UN analysis indicates a potential 12 percent reduction in global emissions by 2035.
