Researchers warn that the Hochvogel mountain in the Allgäu Alps is at risk of a major collapse, with up to 400,000 cubic metres of rock potentially breaking away. A fissure that has widened significantly since the 19th century poses a serious threat, prompting scientists to monitor the area closely with advanced technology. Extreme weather events, exacerbated by climate change, are believed to contribute to the increasing instability of the mountain.
