Hungarian-born historian who became expert on Lincoln, dies at 86

Historian Gabor S. Boritt passed away on February 2 in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. Born in Budapest during WWII, he survived the Holocaust and participated in the 1956 revolution before immigrating to the U.S. He became a leading historian on Abraham Lincoln and the American Civil War, teaching at various universities and founding the Civil War Institute. He received the National Humanities Medal in 2008 and passed away at the age of 86.
