Hungary's Acting President Ágnes Forsthoffer has signed a law establishing the National Agency for the Recovery and Protection of Assets, aimed at addressing public asset abuses and facilitating the recovery of unlawfully acquired assets. The agency, which operates independently of the government, will have broad investigative powers and is a key promise of the Tisza Party's campaign. Critics, including members of the former governing party Fidesz, argue that the agency may be used for political persecution.
