Hungary is attempting to resolve a dispute with the European Commission regarding access to Erasmus+ and Horizon Europe funds while simultaneously refusing to pay €360 million in fines from the European Court of Justice for asylum law violations. The Commission had previously excluded over 30 Hungarian institutions from these funds due to concerns over academic freedom and conflicts of interest. Hungary's National Assembly has amended a law to address these concerns, and the Commission will assess if this is sufficient to resume funding. Meanwhile, Hungary faces escalating fines for non-compliance with the ECJ ruling on asylum rights, which the government has labeled as unacceptable. Teljes cikk (Euronews.com)
