Lennart Monterlos, an 18-year-old Franco-German cyclist, has been detained in Iran while traveling from Europe to Japan. Iranian authorities confirmed his detention for unspecified offenses. The French Foreign Ministry is in contact with Iranian officials and Monterlos' family, as they have not heard from him since June 16. French Prime Minister François Bayrou commented on the situation, urging respect for travel advisories. The case highlights concerns about Iran's treatment of foreign nationals and its use of hostage diplomacy.
