Experts warn this could lead to increased water extraction from the Syr Darya River, further harming the region's ecosystems, including the Aral Sea. While Afghanistan seeks cooperation on water sharing, it is not part of existing transboundary agreements. Central Asian countries are gradually improving relations with the Taliban regime.
