Recent research from the University of Ioannina has uncovered significant historical and cultural data about Ithaca, particularly at the archaeological site known as Homer's School. The site, located in Agios Athanasios, features a large rock formation and excavated antiquities dating back to the Neolithic and Bronze Ages. Notable findings include a Mycenaean underground fountain, ceramic materials from the Hellenistic and early Roman periods, and votive offerings. The discoveries suggest the site played a crucial role in the religious and social life of the Ithacans. The Municipality of Ithaca plans to promote these findings and educate the public about their cultural significance.
