Yomif Kejelcha of Ethiopia finished second in 1:59:41, while Jacob Kiplimo of Uganda secured third place, breaking the previous record by finishing in 2:00:28. In the women's race, Tigst Assefa of Ethiopia won in 2:15:41, setting the fastest-ever time in a women's-only marathon. Switzerland's Marcel Hug and Catherine Debrunner won their respective wheelchair races.
