Krampus parades turn violent: Traditional festivities spark debate over safety and gendered violence 😔
Cikk tartalma röviden
In Austria and parts of Germany, the tradition of Saint Nicholas and the Krampus involves rewarding well-behaved children and punishing misbehaved ones. However, recent Krampus parades have seen serious incidents, including injuries to both spectators and performers. The debate over cultural practices and violence against women is highlighted by the Klaasohm custom on Borkum island, where men in costumes strike women. Despite criticism, some locals support the tradition, leading to protests for its preservation.
