Leatherback turtles are declining rapidly. Could a network of ‘ocean sanctuaries’ save them?
Cikk tartalma röviden
A Greenpeace report advocates a connected network of fully protected ocean sanctuaries in the Atlantic high seas to shield leatherback turtles from industrial fishing. The proposal aims to protect over 31% of the area, potentially reducing mortality and aiding migration, but progress toward protecting 30% of the ocean by 2030 is described as snail-paced. The article situates the discussion ahead of CBD COP17 negotiations.
