Lithuania plans to increase its defense spending to 5-6% of GDP starting in 2026 due to Russian aggression threats, according to President Gitanas Nausėda. This decision, made by the State Defence Council, aims to enhance defense and deterrence efforts. Currently, Lithuania spends over 3% of GDP on defense, and reaching the new target would position it as the highest spender in NATO as a percentage of GDP. The announcement follows calls from US President-elect Donald Trump for NATO allies to raise their defense spending. Teljes cikk (Euronews.com)
