Lufthansa Group has cancelled 20,000 flights to reduce jet fuel costs, targeting unprofitable short-haul routes until October. This move aims to save over 40,000 metric tonnes of fuel and includes the closure of its CityLine subsidiary. The group has also consolidated flight connections through its hubs. Other European airlines are following suit with cancellations due to rising fuel prices. Additionally, airfares and baggage costs are increasing, impacting passengers significantly.
