Belarus' leader Alexander Lukashenko has pardoned 20 individuals labeled as political prisoners by rights activists, amidst ongoing oppression of political opponents ahead of upcoming presidential elections. The pardoned group includes 11 women and individuals suffering from chronic illnesses. This marks the eighth pardon since summer 2024, with a total of 207 political prisoners released since mass protests in 2020.
