Maria Corina Machado, a Venezuelan opposition leader and Nobel peace laureate, reported that armed men kidnapped her ally Juan Pablo Guanipa shortly after his release from prison. Guanipa was taken back into custody under house arrest for allegedly violating release conditions. His son claimed he was intercepted by a group of armed men. The situation follows a recent government initiative to release political detainees, coinciding with the capture of former leader Nicolas Maduro. Human rights organizations have criticized the arbitrary detentions in Venezuela.
