The Irish Midlands, a region of contradictions, faces an economic crisis despite its young population and rich landscape. The Peatlands for Prosperity project aims to transition from carbon-heavy practices to sustainable farming, particularly through paludiculture. Two sites in County Offaly are being used for research and commercial scalability, focusing on high-value crops and biodiversity. The initiative is supported by EU funding and aims to ensure a sustainable future for local communities.
