Marianna D. Birnbaum, a prominent Hungarian literary historian and writer, passed away at the age of 94. She was the first Hungarian to earn a literary doctorate in the USA and gained recognition with her 1991 book, the Esterházy Guide. Birnbaum was a guest professor at CEU for nearly two decades and played a significant role in promoting contemporary Hungarian literature. She had a rich academic career and maintained friendships with notable writers and scholars, including Esterházy Péter. Her legacy includes a vast library and numerous literary connections.
