Between 2013 and 2021, there were 13,530 mesothelioma cases in the EU, the highest among work-related cancers, second only to lung cancer. Mesothelioma is linked to asbestos exposure, which was banned in the EU in 2005. A new directive was approved to reduce asbestos exposure limits.
