Mexican forces detained Pedro Inzunza Noriega, a suspected drug trafficking leader facing US terrorism charges, in Sinaloa. He is accused of directing a major smuggling operation for fentanyl, cocaine, and heroin. This marks the first application of US terrorism statutes against a cartel figure. Inzunza Noriega allegedly collaborated with his son to distribute synthetic opioids, leading to the largest fentanyl seizure globally. His son was killed during a clash with naval forces. The US has classified the Sinaloa cartel as a foreign terrorist entity, prompting a new legal strategy against trafficking organizations.
