For the first time, mosquitoes have been detected in Iceland, a country previously free of them due to its harsh climate. Climate change is warming Iceland rapidly, leading to concerns that mosquitoes may establish themselves in the country's wetlands. Insect enthusiast Bjorn Hjatason discovered three mosquitoes in Kjós, which were identified as Culiseta annulata. Experts warn that warming temperatures could allow more mosquito species to thrive in Iceland.
