The UK has reported a new case of a contagious mpox strain, following infections in Central Africa since its emergence in the DRC in 2023. Two subtypes exist: Clade II, endemic in West Africa, and Clade I, endemic in Central Africa, with Clade Ib being particularly severe. The outbreak has led to cases in several European countries and other regions, with health authorities maintaining that the public risk remains low.
