An unknown illness has claimed over 50 lives in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), with a rapid onset of symptoms leading to death within 48 hours. The outbreak began on January 21, with 419 cases reported. The first cases were linked to children consuming bats. The WHO noted a significant increase in disease outbreaks in Africa, and current tests have ruled out Ebola and other common hemorrhagic fevers.
