The number of early-stage cancer diagnoses in England has reached a record high, with 58.7% of approximately 206,000 cancers diagnosed between September 2023 and August 2024 identified at stages one or two. This marks an increase of 7,000 early diagnoses compared to pre-pandemic levels, attributed to enhanced cancer screening efforts by the NHS. However, overall cancer survival rates in England remain slightly lower than the European average.
