Fernando Clavijo, the president of the Canary Islands, rejected the Spanish government's decision to allow the MV Hondius, which has a hantavirus outbreak, to dock at the islands. He expressed concerns about the lack of information regarding the outbreak and called for an urgent meeting with Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez. The WHO reported that there are 147 people on board, with seven cases linked to the outbreak. Clavijo questioned why the ship could not be treated in Praia instead of the Canary Islands. The Spanish government stated that the transfer is based on humanitarian grounds, while the health ministry confirmed the urgent transfer of a doctor from the ship. The Zöld-foki-szigetek authorities are coordinating the evacuation of three affected individuals.
