New airstrip built on island off Yemen to counter Houthi activities in Red Sea
Cikk tartalma röviden
Construction of a new airstrip on Zuqar Island in the Red Sea, near Yemen, is underway, likely linked to anti-Houthi forces. Satellite images reveal a nearly 2,000-meter runway being built, with asphalt laid by October. The Southern Transitional Council controls the island, acknowledging UAE's involvement. The airstrip enhances military capabilities against Houthi forces, who control much of western Yemen. The project is part of a broader strategy to counter Houthi smuggling and improve aerial surveillance in the region.
