Robert Fico, the Slovak Prime Minister, stated that after the cessation of gas transit through Ukraine, Russia will supply gas to Slovakia via alternative routes, such as Hungary. He emphasized that Slovakia's gas supply is secured, but the halt in Ukrainian transit will result in significant financial losses and increased gas prices in Europe. Fico warned the European Commission about potential gas shortages and price hikes if measures are not taken to maintain gas imports through Ukraine. He mentioned a potential additional cost of 60-70 billion euros for EU member states due to rising gas prices. A working group was agreed upon during discussions in Brussels to address the situation, with Fico indicating that Slovakia may take retaliatory measures if no results are achieved.
