The recent clashes in Syria have resulted in a significant death toll, marking one of the deadliest escalations since the conflict began. Sunni gunmen loyal to the new government have launched revenge killings against the Alawite minority, leading to widespread violence and atrocities reported by residents. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that hundreds of Alawites have been killed, with many fleeing for safety. The government claims to have regained control of areas from Assad loyalists, while the international community is urged to protect Alawites.
