Key lawmakers from the eurosceptic Patriots for Europe (PfE) group aim to use their new power in the European Parliament to challenge the EU's climate policy, particularly the target to reduce greenhouse emissions by 90% by 2040. Despite attempts to expedite the process, the PfE will now lead negotiations on the climate file. The group has historically opposed the EU's Green Deal, with leaders calling for a suspension of its targets. The recent vote has sparked backlash from leftist and centrist MEPs, highlighting concerns over the influence of far-right parties in climate negotiations.
