The Polish Foreign Ministry clarified that the recall of Ambassador Sebastian Kęciek was due to the expiration of his term and not a political signal related to Hungary granting asylum to Marcin Romanowski, a former deputy minister wanted in Poland. They criticized Hungary's actions as unjustified and damaging to bilateral relations. Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó expressed a desire for good relations despite political differences, but noted that the Polish government seems uninterested in cooperation. Romanowski, facing serious charges in Poland, currently resides in Budapest and works for the Center for Fundamental Rights.
