This summer has seen a significant increase in Portuguese man-of-war sightings in northern Spain, leading to beach closures and over a hundred stings reported in a single day. Authorities emphasize the importance of avoiding contact with these organisms, even when washed ashore. If stung, individuals are advised to wash the area with seawater, remove tentacles carefully, and seek medical attention for severe symptoms.
