Review of EU regional funding still on hold amid defence rerouting concerns
Cikk tartalma röviden
The EU's mid-term evaluation of its regional funding programme has been postponed, raising concerns about reallocating funds for defence amid geopolitical tensions. Commission Executive Vice-President Raffaele Fitto emphasized the need for careful consideration. The evaluation is crucial for assessing the effectiveness of nearly €370 billion in funds for 2021-2027, with discussions on potentially redirecting these funds towards military projects. While some officials, like Poland’s Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz, are open to using cohesion funds for defence, others warn against undermining long-term regional development.
