Marcel Ciolacu, Romania's former Prime Minister, announced his resignation from the leadership of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) during a party council meeting. He expressed pride in the party's achievements, including Romania's NATO membership and EU integration. Sorin Grindeanu has been appointed as the interim leader until a special congress. Despite a decrease in support, the PSD remains the largest party in the Romanian parliament. Grindeanu emphasized a return to social democratic roots and ruled out a coalition with the AUR party.
