Residents of Saydnaya, a significant Christian pilgrimage site near Damascus, are urging media and officials to stop referring to the military prison on the road to their city as 'Saydnaya Prison,' claiming it misrepresents their city and its history. They emphasize that the prison, officially the First Military Prison, is not within Saydnaya's administrative boundaries and has been associated with systematic torture. Local leaders argue that this misnaming is an injustice to the city's rich heritage and cultural coexistence, which is currently threatened by economic struggles and declining religious tourism.
