A study from Cornell University reveals that AI, particularly large language models like ChatGPT, is significantly increasing paper production in academic research, especially among non-native English speakers. However, this surge raises concerns about the quality of AI-assisted papers, making it challenging for reviewers to distinguish valuable contributions from low-quality work. The study analyzed over two million research papers and found that while AI tools boost productivity, many AI-generated papers struggle to pass peer review due to perceived lack of scientific value.
