New research indicates that aerosol pollution from human activities cools the climate more than previously understood, potentially masking the true extent of global warming. The study, led by the University of Eastern Finland and the Finnish Meteorological Institute, highlights the sensitivity of low-altitude cloud properties to aerosol concentrations, suggesting that human-caused aerosols have partly counteracted greenhouse gas warming. The findings, published in Nature Geoscience, will enhance climate models' accuracy in predicting future climate change impacts.
