Russian scientists have discovered the remains of a 50,000-year-old baby mammoth named Yana in Yakutia, Siberia. Yana is the best-preserved mammoth carcass found to date, weighing over 100kg and measuring 120cm tall and 200cm long. Discovered in the Batagaika crater, Yana's remains were found by local residents who built a stretcher to lift her to the surface. Despite some parts being eaten, her head is well preserved. Researchers are studying Yana at North-Eastern Federal University to determine her exact age. This discovery is part of a trend of thawing permafrost revealing prehistoric remains due to climate change. Teljes cikk (bbc.com europe)
