Germany has halted a joint fighter jet program with France, a key component of the Future Combat Air System (FCAS), due to irreconcilable differences between industrial partners and diverging national defence priorities. This decision, despite initial ambitions for a strong European defence partnership, underscores significant discord between the two nations and challenges Europe's ability to act strategically. The move comes amidst a shift in Germany's defence spending and a broader reassessment of future military needs, prompting calls to re-evaluate European defence cooperation.
