The EU Ombudsman has received two complaints regarding the selection process for a new European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS). The first complaint was received before summer, and the second is currently being analyzed. The current EDPS, Wojciech Wiewiórowski, whose mandate expired in December, has not yet been replaced due to disagreements between the European Parliament and EU member states over candidates. The Parliament supports Bruno Gencarelli, while member states prefer Wiewiórowski. Concerns have been raised about Gencarelli's independence, and the EDPS role has historically been held by individuals from national supervisory authorities.
