The US has seen a decline in sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) after years of alarming increases, attributed to factors like declining condom use and inadequate sex education. Notably, syphilis cases dropped by 10% and gonorrhoea by 7% last year. The CDC's Dr. Jonathan Mermin expressed encouragement over these trends. However, there are concerns about rising syphilis cases in newborns and a 12% increase in later-stage syphilis. The use of doxycycline as a preventive measure has been recommended, particularly for gay and bisexual men. In contrast, Europe is experiencing a surge in STDs, with significant increases reported in gonorrhoea, syphilis, and chlamydia cases. Teljes cikk (Euronews.com)
