Slovakia's Prime Minister Robert Fico stated that Ukraine's decision to halt Russian gas transit to the EU will negatively impact the bloc rather than Russia. The gas transit deal, which had been in place for decades, ended on January 1 after Ukraine refused to renew it. Fico warned that this could cost the EU €120 billion over two years and Slovakia up to €500 million annually. Despite the loss of Russian gas, Slovakia has alternative sources and does not anticipate a gas shortage. Teljes cikk (Euronews.com)
