Ukrainian soldiers, including Anatolii Basenko, defended the Azovstal steel plant in Mariupol against Russian attacks during the ongoing conflict. Basenko, who had previously fought in 2014, returned to Ukraine to defend his country after the full-scale invasion began. The operation involved daring helicopter missions to evacuate wounded soldiers and deliver supplies. Despite suffering severe injuries, Basenko and others remained committed to their cause. Many soldiers remain in Russian captivity, facing torture and abuse, which Basenko believes is underreported. He emphasizes the sacrifices made by defenders of Mariupol and expresses hope for the city's future under Ukrainian sovereignty.
