An ambush by gunmen loyal to ousted leader Bashar Assad led to clashes in Syria, resulting in over 1,000 deaths in four days. The violence, centered near Latakia, marks the worst since December and has reignited the civil war's wounds. The pro-Assad forces took control of Qardaha, Assad's hometown, while the interim government under Ahmad Al-Sharaa calls for accountability and fair elections amidst ongoing sectarian violence.
