Dubravka Đedović Handanović, the Serbian Minister of Energy, stated that the main obstacle in negotiations is the future operation of the NIS refinery, particularly concerning domestic market supply. He emphasized the importance of not jeopardizing supply security or the economic impact of the refinery's operation on local companies. The Serbian government aims for a compromise but not at any cost. The discussions with the Serbian government are independent of the negotiations between the current majority owners of Mol and NIS. The Serbian state currently holds a 29.9% stake in NIS and aims to increase it by an additional 5%. The NIS was sanctioned by the U.S. Treasury's OFAC last October as part of broader measures against Russia's energy sector.
