Taiwan opposition leader Cheng Li-wun visited China, invited by President Xi Jinping, aiming for peace amid ongoing tensions over Taiwan's status. This is the first visit by a Taiwanese opposition leader in a decade, coinciding with a meeting between Xi and US President Donald Trump. Taiwan's parliament has stalled a significant defense budget, while China continues military pressure on the island. Cheng emphasized the need for peaceful dialogue, contrasting with China's stance on Taiwan's sovereignty.
