The recruitment of secondary classroom teachers in England for the 2023/24 academic year reached only half of its target, as reported by NFER. Teacher salaries have been declining in real terms across many European countries, contributing to a widespread shortage of teachers. Between 2015 and 2023, salaries fell in 10 out of 22 countries, with Greece and Luxembourg experiencing the sharpest declines. Conversely, Turkey saw a significant increase in teacher salaries.
