Thailand is implementing a birth control vaccine for wild elephants to manage increasing human-elephant conflicts as their habitats shrink due to farming. The initiative aims to reduce confrontations that have resulted in fatalities and property damage. The vaccine, which prevents fertilization for seven years, has shown promising results in trials. However, it faces criticism for potentially undermining conservation efforts. Authorities are also exploring additional measures to mitigate conflicts, including creating food sources and protective fencing.
