Researchers from the University of Southampton predict that rising ocean temperatures due to climate change will lead whale sharks to seek new habitats, increasing their risk of collisions with large ships. The study indicates that by the end of the century, such collisions could rise 15,000 times. Whale sharks, the largest fish, are particularly vulnerable due to their surface dwelling and mobility. The study suggests that while some habitats may be lost, there is potential for positive change through government action to protect these marine animals.
