The Portuguese centre-right government proposed tax breaks for young people in the 2025 budget to encourage them to stay in the country. The initiative offers no taxes on income up to €28,000 for those aged 35 or younger in the first year, with gradual tax increases over ten years. Finance Minister Joaquim Miranda Sarmento estimates that 350,000 to 400,000 young people could benefit. The program aims to address the emigration of young people, with 30% of those aged 15-39 having left Portugal. The budget vote is scheduled for 31 October, and failure to pass it could threaten Prime Minister Luís Montenegro's government. Teljes cikk (Euronews.com)
