Residents of Wellington are campaigning to reintroduce the endangered kiwi bird to the city after it vanished over a century ago. The Capital Kiwi Project, led by Paul Ward, aims to restore the kiwi population in urban areas, emphasizing its cultural significance to New Zealanders. Recently, the 250th kiwi was relocated to Wellington, marking a significant milestone in conservation efforts. The initiative is part of a broader goal to make New Zealand predator-free by 2050, with community involvement playing a crucial role in protecting this iconic species.
