Martinis, won the 2025 Nobel Prize in Physics for their groundbreaking work on quantum mechanics, specifically in macroscopic quantum mechanical tunnelling and energy quantisation in electric circuits. Their experiments in the 1980s demonstrated tangible properties of quantum mechanics, which are foundational to modern digital technology. The Nobel Prize includes a cash award and will be presented in December.
